Sue Lynch (registered hygienist, DHE, FETC) grew up locally and trained in dental hygiene at Aldershot, qualifying in 1980. Sue has worked at Oakwood since it first opened in 2004 and is enthusiastic about educating her patients in oral hygiene, including the best tooth brushing techniques for their unique circumstances.

In her spare time Sue loves to be outdoors and enjoys walking, lake/river swimming and caving.

Lead receptionist

Charlie qualified as a dental nurse in 1993 but since having her two daughters has assumed a receptionist role. Charlie loves her job. She is very much a people person and so being front and centre at our practice, she greets everyone with a warm welcome and has been known to natter until the cows come home if permitted.

Outside of work, Charlie enjoys spending time with her family and friends, and going for long walks along the beach or in the forest with her two dogs. Charlie also loves to swim.

Sam joined the practice in September 2017 and worked with Grethe and Hennie at their previous practice in Winchester. Sam has enjoyed a varied role undertaking both nursing duties and administrative tasks and is now studying towards her ILM qualification in practice management. She likes to be busy, she prefers it when things run efficiently, and she seems to be ever-present ensuring they do.

In her spare time Sam enjoys swimming, baking, and spending time with her pets – her tortoise (Sheldon) and her cat (Monty).

Lisa qualified as a dental nurse in 2000 and has been dental nursing since leaving school. She has expanded her knowledge and nursing credentials by obtaining qualifications in dental radiography in 2012. Lisa likes to care for people and ensure they are well looked after, which makes her an ideal dental nurse and a valued member of our team.

Lisa enjoys reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Lisa also likes to go on long dog walks around the local area.

Grethe graduated from Stellenbosch University with honours (Cum Laude) in 1999. She worked in Bristol for two and a half years and pursued further studies at Bristol University. In 2002 she decided to settle in Winchester where she practiced for 16 years. Her passion has always been to have ownership of her own truly family-run practice. In 2017 she picked Oakwood Dental Practice for its lovely, friendly atmosphere. Since acquiring the practice she has focussed on improving the practice by investing in the most modern equipment and technology to provide our patients with access to an extensive range of services. She looks forward to the years ahead providing exemplary service to our patients.

Grethe enjoys all aspects of restorative and aesthetic dentistry. She loves helping nervous patients and is a great believer in preventative and conservative treatments.

Grethe completed her Diploma in Post-graduate Dental Studies from Bristol University in 2008. She has a special interest in oral medicine and pathology and restorative dentistry involving fixed and removable dentures. She has completed two year-long courses in cosmetic restorative dentistry and her passion for cosmetics has sparked a further interest in non-surgical facial aesthetic treatments. She has spent the last 10 years constantly training and improving her techniques and expertise to provide modern technologies and natural-looking results. She has also developed a keen interest in root canal treatment. She is a full Invisalign provider and has also completed an additional year-long course in orthodontics to provide the best range of choices for patients seeking cosmetic improvements to their smiles.

It brings Grethe great joy and pride to bring confidence to her patients by creating their perfect smiles.

Outside of dentistry, Grethe’s family life keeps her busy. Life with her husband, two daughters and three Siamese cats is never boring. She loves dancing, reading, gardening and really enjoys her new silversmithing hobby. She promises to make time for art and salsa classes at some point!

Hennie is Grethe Louw’s husband and he is a strong advocate of anxiety control in dentistry and he is a member of SAAD (The Society for the Advancement of Anaesthetics in Dentistry).

His qualifications include a post graduate diploma in minor oral surgery and sedation techniques as well as a masters degree in dental implantology.  Earlier in his career he was a dental trainer for the Oxford Deanery for 8 years, mentoring and training dental registrars.  His previous practice in Winchester, where he was a principal dentist has been awarded Advanced Training status. Being a trainer has kept him on his toes with his own dental career development and created an ethos of constantly striving for improvement. Hennie accepts referrals from other practices in the area and he is still a dental mentor for sedation and implant trainees.

Outside of work Hennie enjoys keeping fit by mountain-biking and is constantly trying to improve his golf swing! He plays the piano and trumpet and loves a wide variety of music from classical to light jazz.  Hennie is keen to build on his language skills and speaks English and Afrikaans fluently and is currently working on his Spanish.

Silvia joined the practice in June 2020 and has been a valued member of the team ever since. She is a well driven and passionate person that is always looking to complete her day-to-day tasks efficiently and to the best of her abilities.

Siliva enjoys spending time with her family, going to the gym and walking her dog.

Apprentice Dental Nurse

Chloe joined the practice in October 2023 as a trainee dental nurse. She is a friendly, welcoming member of staff that is always happy to help. She is looking forward to learning new skills during her course over the next 18 months to then become a qualified dental nurse.

In her spare time Chloe likes to spend time with family and friends, long walks with her dogs and weekends away in Cornwall.

Liv joined the practice in July 2022 as a trainee dental nurse, qualifying in October 2023. She is keen to further her skills and knowledge by undertaking a sedation course in the future to join the sedation team here at Oakwood Dental Practice.

In her spare time, she enjoys playing football, crocheting and spending time with her friends.

Holly joined the practice in December 2021 as a trainee dental nurse, qualifying in June 2023. She is an enthusiastic and passionate member of staff that wants to go on to extend knowledge to become a dental practitioner.

In her spare time Holly likes to go to the gym, walk her dogs (Marco and Gizmo) and spend time with her friends and family.

Harry first started as a trainee dental nurse in 2015 working alongside Grethe, Hennie and Sam in Winchester. After qualifying as a dental nurse Harry progressed into becoming lead nurse at the practice in Winchester back in 2019. Harry visited schools in the local area to give oral health talks to the children and their parents with one of his colleagues.

During this time, Harry felt that children and parents needed a pro-active dental professional to provide tips and advice on how to maintain the health of their teeth and gums. Harry then enrolled himself at the University of Portsmouth in 2020 and qualified with a BSc (Hons) in Dental Hygiene and Dental Therapy in 2023. During his final year at University, Harry was asked to deliver a presentation at the annual UCLL symposium, presenting his findings from his final year project, a study on the awareness of oral cancer by undergraduate dental care professionals.

As a dental therapist, Harry can carry out restorative treatments and teeth whitening, as well as providing care for and information to patient’s on their gums and how to keep their mouths healthy. Harry strives to take care of his patients, and ensures they are comfortable throughout their appointments.

In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Anna qualified from Bristol University in 2010 then moved on to complete her vocational training in Salisbury. After this she continued on her postgraduate studies to gain membership of the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh in 2012. For over 10 years she has worked in general practice in Hampshire gaining a wealth of experience in family dentistry, as well as within the special care dental service, providing care for patients with complex needs, including anxious patients and the elderly. She continues to keep up to date with the latest techniques in restorative dentistry through BDA memberships and regular professional courses.

Beyond dentistry she enjoys staying active, spending time outside with her family and dog.

Richard graduated in 2010 with honours from Bristol University. He completed additional training at the QA in Portsmouth before settling into general practice. During this time, he has completed his membership exams for the Royal College of Surgeons in Edinburgh and has completed a master’s degree in Advanced General Dental Practice at the University of Birmingham.

Richard is focused on continuous professional education to ensure that he is always using the latest evidence-based techniques and enjoys all aspects of restorative dentistry. Richard brings a varied range of skills to our practice and is a strong advocate of high-quality, patient-centred care.

At home Richard is kept busy by his young family and never-tiring spaniel. He enjoys hikes, running, and all sports, particularly Football, which he still plays on a weekly basis.

Emily qualified as a dental nurse in 2017 and joined the Oakwood Dental team in September 2018. Emily loves the diverse nature of her role, particularly because of the breadth of dental treatments we offer here at our Botley practice, and she is always enthusiastic about learning new skills. Emily is a passionate champion of preventative dentistry and oral hygiene – when working with Kirsty, our therapist, they make an awesome team.

Outside of work, Emily enjoys cooking, jogging, and going for walks with her family and her dog.

Receptionist

Gina joined the practice as our second receptionist in June 2018 and provides the kind of friendly, genuine welcome that puts everyone at ease. Just the ticket too because believe it or not, some people are nervous of visiting their dentist!

Gina lives with her husband and young daughter and outside of work enjoys horse riding, socialising and spending time with her family.

Kirsty started in dentistry as a receptionist in Hennie and Grethe’s previous practice. She worked with Grethe for about 7 years and qualified as a dental nurse in 2008. Her passion for dentistry sent her striving for more and Kirsty enrolled in university and gained an honours qualification in dental therapy. As a dental therapist Kirsty can undertake restorative work and tooth whitening treatments. In her role as an hygienist, Kirsty ensures her patients receive meticuclous care and the information they need to effectively maintain healthy teeth and gums between visits.

Kirsty loves animals. She is up early every morning tending to her horse before tending to our teeth.
